is good for what ails you
transcendence (2014 movie)
i just watched the film, and i actually enjoyed it quite a lot. i didn't approach it with much expectation, since i missed it during its initial run when it came out and then saw that the reviews for it weren't good.
i liked the fact that it builds up toward a rather sinister theme but resolves it in a more uplifting way. the technological viability side of it i won't touch, but the way they interpreted how human mind or consciousness can overcome the stress of transcending its biological limits and adapt to a thoroughly different environment while retaining altruistic motivation was inspirational, even if extremely far-fetched. taking interest in Buddhist concepts of mind, i was attracted to exploration of the idea of mind transcending the seemingly insuperable confines, and this film gave the topic an exciting new context for me.
(and yep, i don't care how re-hashed the actual topic is, as people say. a film just either clicks with you emotionally or it doesn't. this one did.)
